It is with regret that we have to announce the resignation of our Assistant Head Coach, Ash Morris. Ash will continue coaching at Mid Beds until 31st July and will continue to take the squads as normal until then (including National Champs).Ash has been offered the chance to coach in Dubai, in itself the opportunity of a lifetime and providing a life experience that he felt that he could not turn down.Ash would like to thank all of the swimmers & parents for making his three years at the squad so enjoyable and successful. MBSS equally return his thanks and wish him every success in his new position
Sam Bradley achieved his first International Medal at the Paralympic World Cup Meet held in May. Sam won a bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle in a time just outside his personal best. He also swam well in the 200 IM and the 100m Breaststroke.
Training is cancelled at Flitwick on 7th and 14th june due to the east age champs

Congratulations to East Youth Swimmers. 6th in Medal table with 5 Golds, 2 Silvers & 6 Bronze medals; an improvement of one place from last year! Some great swims, lots of finals and 3 Bedfordshire County Records!
The AGM of MBSS will be on the 30th June 2009 at 7pm at the Saxon Pool, Biggleswade, further details are to be circulated to members in due course.

Sam Bradley broke the British Record in the 400 IM SC at the City of Leicester Open Meet by 12 seconds. As holder of the record he was delighted at the time of 6:26.22
Well Done to all those who competed at the Leicester Open Meet at the weekend. Overall 77% achived Personal Bests, and there were 86 regional qualifying times and 6 national qualifying times. Click here for the results

.... to Adam Ingledew, Harriet Brettle, Yasmin Bithrey, Rachel Hollington and Aydin Berki in their selection to represent Division 10 at the ESSA (English Schools) Championships on 24/25 October
The Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme allows swimmers AASE is a Government funded initiative that has been designed to meet the needs of young people (aged 16-18) who have the realistic potential to achieve excellence in their sport and are seeking to perform at the highest level as their main career goal, whilst continuing with their education. Notionally taking two years to complete, the AASE framework will provide for the first time a structured national training and development route across all sports for talented young athletes, many of whom may go to represent their country on the world stage. The apprenticeship is the first to offer elite and potentially elite athletes to achieve proper recognition of the skills, knowledge and understanding they are developing/gaining in their quest for excellence. On the induction day Harriet met Rebecca Adlington and got to wear her Olympic Gold medal from the 800m Freestyle.
Sam Bradley and Adam Ingledew were selected for the East team for the UK SChool Games. Sam Brdaley came home with 3 golds and a new UK School games record in the 200 IM. Adam Ingledew collected 2 bronze medals, one in the 50m Free and another in the 400 Medley team.
Training is now on, on Monday the 25th August at Saxon Pool Biggleswade.
Nick & Ash
Mid Beds had their best national championships to date by picking up a 3rd placing in the Top Boys Age Club, and a 7th place ranking overall. Caleb Hughes collected 8 Golds, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze, and Aydin Berki collected bronze in the 3000m. Emily McConnell claimed 4th place in the final of the 100m Breaststroke, Sam Bradley made 3 finals, and Adam Ingledew and Yasmin Bithrey made semi finals in the 100m Freestyle. Outstanding swims also from Harriet Brettle, Rachel Hollington, Shauna Lee, Alex Raine, Tom Kelly, Alasdair Kerr, Alice Marchant and Chris Bradbury.
Congratulations to Dave Metcalf for Refereeing his first National Championships on Day 5 of the National Youth Championships 2008. Mid Beds Officials, Hugh Kerr and Gerry Metcalf also officiated at the meet.
